SOLES

This initiative provides ESL classes to CLA/Open university students who have the opportunity to grow in their capacity as leaders through English language acquisition. During weekly classes at USD, teacher candidates from the Master’s in TESOL program provide experiences that support participants with the language and skills needed for leadership development. Content based instruction and language instruction for specific purposes will be designed to support students to address their daily needs and to equip them to be more effective advocates, leaders, members of the community, and in their family roles. For instance, teacher candidates will mentor and coach students in public speaking. This initiative will have a direct and immediate impact on the community with long-term ripple effects from growing ESL capacity among community leaders poised to make change.
