Our project to teach English to adults in a community-based program began this semester in collaboration with the Linda Vista Kindergarten Readiness Network (LVKRN) and Principal Stephanie Brown at Montgomery Middle School. Candidates in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program meet weekly on Tuesday evenings at Montgomery to deliver lessons in teaching-teams to three groups of parents and members from the Linda Vista community followed by a debriefing session and direct instruction around theory and effective practices within this particular context. Principal Brown provides the facility and copying services; LVKRN provides snacks and stationary funded through a “GoFundMe” account, as well as childcare services. We hope to develop a sustainable model to continue providing this service through the support of ILVI.
